LEGO Masters Age Requirement: How Old Do You Have to Be?

For the standard LEGO Masters competition, the one that airs on FOX and has run five seasons with Will Arnett hosting, applicants must be at least 18 years old. That is a hard floor. Casting calls and application forms for the adult show consistently list 18 as the minimum, no exceptions for younger builders even if they are talented enough to compete.

This matters because LEGO Masters pairs teams of two for a real competition with a $100,000 prize, a trophy, and the title of LEGO Masters on the line. It is filmed like an adult reality competition, with long build days and high pressure challenges, which is part of why the age floor sits where most competition shows set theirs.

While 18 is the minimum, nothing in the show's format caps how old a contestant can be. Teams across the five seasons have spanned a wide range of ages and life stages, from young adult AFOLs (adult fans of LEGO) to builders well into their retirement years. What casting actually looks for is building skill, on camera chemistry between teammates, and a story that makes a team memorable, not a specific age bracket.

Builders under 18 are not shut out of the LEGO Masters universe entirely. There is a separate spinoff, LEGO Masters Jr., built specifically for younger competitors. That show accepts builders between the ages of 9 and 17, and because most of that range covers minors, participation requires parent or guardian consent as part of the application.

Think of LEGO Masters Jr. as its own production with its own casting process rather than a farm league that feeds into the adult show. If your child loves building and is old enough to fall inside that 9 to 17 window, that is the version of the franchise built for them.

Contestants for LEGO Masters get on the show through official casting calls and casting agency applications. Past seasons have used dedicated casting sites to collect applications, along with the usual audition tape and interview process competition shows rely on. Starting with season 6, FOX is adding in-person audition episodes for the first time, held at LEGOLAND California Resort in Carlsbad, so future hopefuls may get a shot at auditioning face to face rather than through a video submission alone.

As of mid-2026, season 6 has been pushed to a mid-season slot with an early 2027 target and no confirmed premiere date, and Nick Cannon is set to take over hosting duties from Will Arnett. Whenever new casting opens for that season, age 18 will almost certainly remain the entry requirement for the main show, since that has held steady across every prior season.
