The verdict

The printed textile sail is what got me here, it catches the light and gives the whole boat a real sense of motion even sitting still.

This is a proper Moana 2 playset built for hands and stories rather than a display piece, and it does that job with genuine charm. At sixty dollars for 529 pieces you are paying the Disney licensing premium, so go in knowing the value is in the play and the characters, not the brick count. If you love the film it is an easy yes.

Best for: Moana 2 fans age six and up who want a boat they can actually sail around the living room

The full review

What it is

This is the voyaging canoe from Moana 2, a double-hulled boat with a printed cloth sail, a removable top deck, and a little living space tucked underneath with a campfire and sleeping spots. The first thing I did was hold it up by the mast and swish it side to side, and that sail really sells the fantasy. It measures about 26cm tall once the mast is up, so it has real presence for a set this size. LEGO clearly built it to be sailed around a room rather than parked behind glass, and honestly that is refreshing. Everything clicks together with the kind of solidity that makes you trust it in small hands.

The catch

The price deserves plain talk. Sixty dollars for 529 pieces works out to roughly eleven cents per brick, which is firmly in Disney licensing territory. You are paying for the characters and the film tie-in, not raw plastic, and that is worth saying plainly. There is also no Maui and no Heihei the chicken, so if you were picturing the full cast you will feel a gap. And while the canoe is lovely, it reads as a toy first. Adult collectors chasing a centerpiece for the shelf may find it a touch simple once the novelty of the sail wears off.

Who it's for

The right home for this is clear enough. If there is a Moana 2 fan around age six who wants a boat they can genuinely play with, this is a delight, sturdy, colorful, and full of story hooks like the climbable rope lei hulu and the hidden lower deck. Fans of the mini-dolls will love getting Loto the shipbuilder and Moni the oarsman, since both are exclusive here. If you are a strict value buyer counting pieces per dollar, or an adult wanting a detailed display model, this probably is not the set that wins you over. Buy it for the play and the film love, and it delivers.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

The build itself is friendly and quick, aimed squarely at the six-plus crowd, so an experienced builder will breeze through the 529 pieces in an easygoing hour. The two hulls come together first and give the whole thing a satisfying backbone, then the deck, mast, and rigging go on top. It never gets fiddly or frustrating, which is exactly right for the target age, and the finished boat feels reassuringly solid when you pick it up.

The clear standout is the printed textile sail, a real cloth piece carrying the geometric Wayfinder pattern, and it is the soul of the model. Beyond that you get some lovely earthy tans and warm browns for the wooden hull, plus the rope element used as the lei hulu that kids can climb a mini-doll up. The three mini-dolls carry a lot of the value here, with Moana, Loto, and Moni all sporting nicely printed Moana 2 outfits, and little Pua the pig rounding out the crew. It is not a parts-pack set for MOC builders, but the sail and the character printing punch above the price.

Fun facts

  • 01The set arrived in the January 2025 wave tied to Moana 2, which became one of Disney's biggest animated hits at the box office.
  • 02Loto the shipbuilder and Moni the oarsman are both new characters introduced in Moana 2, and this set is the only place to get their mini-dolls.
  • 03The sail is a genuine printed fabric piece rather than a plastic panel, letting it flex and catch light like a real voyaging canoe's sail.
  • 04The rope lei hulu is a working play feature, a hanging line a mini-doll can climb to scout the wind and the horizon.
