Is this the set for you?
Choose 77120 for a Shadow fan who wants several ways to stage the same fight. The Dark Rider can leave the mech, and the Doom Wings attach to Shadow or the machine, so the appeal extends beyond posing one large robot.
A good fit for: Ages 8+ who want Shadow, motorcycle action and a heavily armed mech together.
Look beyond the robot silhouette
The Dark Rider is a separate motorcycle that deploys through the mech's opening front bull bars. The Doom Wings can move between the machine and Shadow. Those changes give a child ways to continue a fight after leaving the mech behind.
The included G.U.N. Trooper supplies the other side of the encounter, while two Chaos Emeralds provide objectives. The mech adds articulated limbs, two swords and four shoulder-mounted stud shooters.
Shadow or Tails?
Cyclone vs. Metal Sonic 77002 makes a useful comparison if the request was simply for a Sonic mech. That set centers on Tails and Metal Sonic, and its legs fold up and rotate forward to convert the mech for flight. Here the decision is Shadow with a deployable bike and interchangeable wings.
Ask which character the recipient wants to take into battle. Choosing a mechanical feature first can miss the reason a fan asked for a Sonic set in the first place.
Give the mech space to pose
LEGO marks the 374-piece set 8+ and lists the mech at over 20 cm high, 16 cm wide and 14 cm deep. Use those measurements for its resting place, then allow nearby room to deploy the bike. A display that leaves the motorcycle trapped behind other models would hide one of the set's more useful play features.
