Is this the set for you?

Choose 77981 when your child wants several dinosaurs to care for and more than one rescue activity. The helicopter winch, x-ray machine and opening waterfall give the four animals different places to go, while the 4+ building format keeps the emphasis on starting the story.

A good fit for: Early builders who enjoy animal care, helicopter rescues and switching between several dinosaur figures.

Several animals, several jobs

This set suits a child who likes deciding what each animal needs. The cast includes a baby stegosaurus, a pteranodon and two velociraptors, with Owen Grady and Kayla Watts to run the rescue. Four animals let a child move between care and rescue stories without adding more dinosaur sets.

The x-ray machine gives the stegosaurus a treatment scene. The helicopter can lower a supply crate with its winch, while the bridge and opening waterfall add places to explore. These are different actions within one setting, which matters if your child loses interest when every character has the same job.

Match the building format to the child

LEGO marks the 171-piece set for ages 4 and up. Starter Bricks provide an initial structure, and the picture instructions help children who are still learning to read. Each bag includes a model and a character, so the whole center needn't be finished before a child has something to play with.

The animals are molded figures. That is a useful distinction for a gift: the project is building the rescue surroundings and vehicles, then using the dinosaurs in them. A child hoping to construct the animal itself would have a different experience with the brick-built pteranodon in 77977.

Choose the rescue setting you want to add

Young T. rex Transport Truck 77978 focuses on luring one dinosaur into a cage and loading it onto a truck. Choose 77981 when the child would use the wider animal cast, treatment equipment and helicopter; choose the truck when driving and loading are the main attraction.

If Baby Dinosaur Rescue Center 76963 is already in the collection, compare the animals before buying another care setting. That set has five dinosaur figures and Darius and Sammy; this one brings Kayla and Owen plus the winch, x-ray and waterfall activities. For storage, allow more than the listed 18 cm height, 26 cm width and 9 cm depth of the center-and-waterfall arrangement if you want to keep the helicopter beside it.
