The verdict

I built this one on a slow afternoon expecting a cute filler set, and the little spinning wind turbine that powers the tent's lights won me over completely.

It is a small, quiet set, not a showpiece, but it packs in more clever function than sets twice its size. Andrea, Stephanie, Daniel, and their puppy Pebble get a proper day at the beach, from paddleboarding to marshmallows by the stove, then a cozy night under canvas. If you want a set that plays as well as it builds, this is one of the better Friends sets from 2022.

Best for: kids who want a beach or camping playset they can actually act out scenes with, plus fans of clever small mechanisms

The full review

What it is

I built this one on a slow afternoon not expecting much, and the little wind turbine on the roof genuinely got me. It spins by hand and lights up the string lights inside the tent, which is exactly the kind of small mechanical trick that makes a set feel alive instead of static. The rest of the build follows the same spirit: a jetty for fishing, an outdoor shower and toilet, two paddleboards, and a stove with cozy seating, all packed into a footprint that would fit on a single shelf.

The catch

I will be straight with you, this is not a set that impresses from across the room. It is small, the tent's fabric cover feels a bit thin next to the sturdier brick sections, and with only three minifigs and a puppy, it will not satisfy anyone who wants a big cast of characters. At around forty dollars for close to four hundred pieces it is a fair deal, not a steal, and it plays best as a companion piece to a bigger Friends beach or camping set rather than a standalone centerpiece.

Who it's for

Get this one if you want a genuinely playable set for a kid who loves the beach or camping, or if you appreciate small, well thought out mechanisms over sheer size. Skip it if you are chasing display value or a large minifig roster, because this set was built for hands-on play, not for sitting on a shelf.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

The build itself is quick and friendly, the kind of set that works well for a newer builder or a parent and kid building together over an afternoon. It moves through distinct little scenes, the tent frame, the jetty, the paddleboards, the stove area, so there is a steady sense of progress rather than one long slog through a single structure. Nothing here is fiddly or repetitive, which makes it a pleasant, relaxed build from start to finish.

The standout piece is the wind turbine mechanism that actually lights the tent's little string lights when you spin it by hand, a nice bit of function for a set at this price point. The tent's fabric cover is a soft goods piece that gives the whole thing a cozier, more textured look than an all-brick tent would. The paddleboard pieces, the shell accessories, and the marshmallow-on-a-stick element are all small touches that add real character without padding out the piece count for no reason.
