The verdict

This one won me over on the details before it won me over on the build.

The spinning ballroom floor and the ripped portrait of the Prince are the kind of movie touches that make a six-year-old gasp, and Chip and Mrs. Potts as little buildable figures are genuinely sweet. I'll be straight with you, the price per piece is rough and the walls are made of big pre-formed castle panels, so adult builders hoping for a clever architectural challenge should look elsewhere. But as a play castle for a Beauty and the Beast fan, it delivers exactly what it promises.

Best for: A young Beauty and the Beast fan who wants to act out the whole movie

The full review

What it is

The enchanted rose under its little glass cover is what got me first. It sounds small, but that one accessory tells you exactly who this castle is for, and it is not the same crowd chasing modular buildings. Belle and the Beast's Castle is a two-floor, fold-open play castle covering nearly every set piece from the film: Chef Bouche's kitchen, the dining room where Lumiere lights up, Belle's closet with a rotating wardrobe, the ballroom with its spinning dance floor, a library upstairs and a tower. At 505 pieces it builds in about an hour, and from the moment it opens up it is basically begging to be played with.

The catch

Then there is the money, and I won't dress it up. At 79.99 USD this is not a good deal on paper, and the parts reviewers said as much: a lot of that box is taken up by large pre-shaped castle panels, so you get fewer of the small, interesting elements than the price suggests. That also means the build itself is fast and fairly simple, without the satisfying layered techniques an adult builder might be hoping for. The walls snap into place, the roof goes on, and you are done. If you came for a construction challenge, this castle will feel a bit thin.

Who it's for

So here is how I would split it. If you are shopping for a child who adores Beauty and the Beast, this is a genuine joy, packed with recognizable characters and film moments, and it holds up to years of rough play. If you are an adult collector who wants a display-worthy castle or a meaty engineering build, this is not your set, and you would be happier with one of LEGO's bigger Disney castles. It sits right in the middle for me: lovely for its intended audience, underwhelming for everyone else.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

Building this is a gentle, breezy hour rather than a deep project. Because the castle is built from large molded panels, whole walls come together in just a few steps, and the fun is in the fittings: hinging the sections so they fold open, clicking in the spinning dance floor, and adding the tiny movie props like the enchanted rose and the torn portrait. Kids can genuinely build a lot of it themselves, which is part of the point, but seasoned builders will breeze through without much to chew on.

For parts hunters there are still a few gems. This set brought a batch of recolors worth noting: the horse mold in medium nougat for Philippe, a dark red 10x10 inverted dish that makes a gorgeous domed roof, dark red round-corner bricks, and cat tails in reddish brown. The dark red dish is the standout piece and shows up in plenty of MOCs. Belle's party torso and a male head are unique to this set too. Just know the price per piece is on the steep side, so if you only want that dish, a single one from BrickLink is the cheaper route.

Fun facts

  • 01The set includes two different Belle mini-dolls so you can pose her in both her everyday blue dress and her golden ballroom gown.
  • 02The dark red 10x10 inverted dish that forms the domed roof was a fresh recolor here, and it became a favorite part for custom builders.
  • 03Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere and Cogsworth are all small buildable LEGO figures rather than printed pieces, so the enchanted staff really come to life on the table.
  • 04Released in 2021 at 79.99 USD, the castle retired at the end of 2023 and was later followed by the much larger 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle.
