The Cat Peach suit is the reason this set exists, and honestly, it's adorable.
Peach in a little pink cat costume, ears and all, gives her a fresh way to interact with the electronic figures, and Kamek is a genuinely characterful build. What stops me short is the price. Eighty dollars for 494 pieces and a tower that a lot of builders found a bit basic is a hard sell, especially when you still need a separate Peach or Mario starter to actually play. If you already own a Peach starter and you love her, this is a joyful add. Everyone else can wait for a discount.
Best for: Peach fans who already own a starter course and want her cat power-up
What it is
The Cat Peach suit is what got me here, and it delivers on the one thing it promises. Slip the little pink cat costume onto your electronic Peach figure and she gets a whole new set of reactions on the course, complete with ears and a tail that are just plain cute. Around her sits a three-level frozen tower that stands over 35cm tall, with a coin block frozen in ice, a yellow fruit to grab, a POW block to smack, and poor Toad trapped up top waiting for a rescue. As a play scenario for a kid who already loves Super Mario, it hangs together nicely, and there is a real sweetness to the theme.
The catch
I'll be straight with you about the price, because the community was. This is an eighty dollar expansion for 494 pieces, and it does not feel like eighty dollars in your hands. Reviewers pointed out that the older Guarded Fortress gave you more substance for roughly two thirds of the cost, and more than one person said the tower looks blocky and rushed, closer to a 4+ set than the 7+ age mark on the box. On top of that, this is an expansion, not a standalone. You cannot play with it unless you already own a Peach, Mario, or Luigi starter course, which means the real cost of entry is higher than the sticker suggests.
Who it's for
So who actually gets the most out of this. If you already have a Peach starter and she is a favorite in your house, the cat suit is a lovely, low-fuss addition and I think you'll grin building it. If you are a Kamek fan or a completist chasing character figures, he alone is a strong pull. But if you are shopping for pure value, or you don't yet own a starter, this is not where I'd send you first. Wait for it to drop below RRP, because it did retire and it does surface on discount, and pair it with a starter you actually want.
The parts story
What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.
The build itself is quick and gentle, which cuts both ways. An experienced builder will move through the tower in a single relaxed sitting, and the ice enclosure, the coin block, and the tilt mechanism that topples Kamek are the moments with any real cleverness. It is designed for young hands, so the techniques stay simple and the sections snap together fast. That makes it a friendly build for a seven year old and a slightly underwhelming one for anyone hoping for engineering surprises.
The standout pieces are the character figures rather than the bricks. Kamek, Toad, and the Cat Goomba are the three figures in the box, and Kamek in particular carries lovely printing and personality. The Cat Peach costume element is the real collectible here, a purpose-made costume piece you won't find scattered across other sets. Beyond those, the parts are mostly common icy blues, whites, and pinks, useful for winter builds but not the kind of rare recolors parts hunters get excited about. You are buying this for the costume and the characters, not for a bulk haul of unusual elements.
Fun facts
- 01The set was available only from August 2022 to July 2023 before retiring, one of the shorter runs in the Super Mario line.
- 02The electronic Peach figure is not included; the costume is designed to fit the Peach figure from her separate starter course.
- 03Despite an RRP of $79.99, new sealed copies have since climbed on the secondary market, with BrickEconomy tracking values above $90.
- 04The build includes three character figures, Kamek, Toad, and a Cat Goomba, with Kamek repeatedly named by reviewers as the highlight of the box.
