I picked this one up expecting a five minute build and instead found myself grinning at how much island got packed into such a small footprint.
The hut, the waterfall, the little raft, it all reads as Moana's world instantly, and that is a real design win for 175 pieces. I will be straight with you though, at this price and piece count it is a snack, not a meal, and if you already own bigger Disney sets it will feel slight next to them. For a young Moana fan building their first set, or a completist rounding out the 2025 Moana 2 wave, it earns its spot on the shelf without any argument from me.
Best for: young Moana fans and Disney completists who want the whole 2025 wave, not deep-build hobbyists
What it is
The first time I got this one out of the box, I was honestly surprised how much personality LEGO squeezed into 175 pieces. Moana's Island Fun is not trying to be an epic build, it is trying to be a snapshot of her world, the little hut, the waterfall trickling down beside it, a torch, a raft waiting on the shore. And it works. Even before I placed the minifigure into the scene, I could tell exactly what story this set wanted to tell.
The catch
Here is the honest part though. At under twenty dollars for 175 pieces, this sits at a price per piece that is noticeably higher than what you get in a lot of other small Disney sets, and the build itself is over quickly, which is exactly what you would want for a younger builder but might leave an adult collector wanting more resistance and more surprises along the way. It is also small. Once it is built, do not expect it to command a shelf the way the bigger Moana boat sets do.
Who it's for
I would hand this to a young Moana fan building one of their first sets, or to someone chasing the complete 2025 Moana 2 wave who wants every piece of the story on their shelf. If you are after a serious building challenge or a large statement display, skip this one and look at the bigger sets in the wave instead.
The parts story
What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.
Building this one felt quick and satisfying rather than technical. The steps move fast, the hut goes together in a handful of stages, and the waterfall element clicks into place in a way that instantly sells the scene. It is the kind of build I would happily sit a six or seven year old down with and let them do almost entirely on their own, checking in only now and then.
The part that got me was how much the small selection of specialty pieces, the waterfall piece, the leafy roofing, the little torch, do the heavy lifting for atmosphere. There is nothing rare or printed to chase here and the part count value is modest for the price, so this is not a set you buy for the parts. You buy it for the fact that in under two hundred pieces, LEGO managed to hand you a believable little corner of Moana's island.
