I sat with this one longer than I expected to, mostly because the cockpit surprised me.
LEGO has been building some version of the Eta-2 Jedi Interceptor since 2012, and most of those releases just swapped stickers and called it a day. This one actually redesigns the nose and canopy, and you can feel the difference under your fingers while you build it. It is not a huge model and it will not anchor a shelf, but it is a genuinely fun little build with a Padawan era Ahsoka figure that fans of the Clone Wars have wanted for a while. Skip it if you already own two or three Eta-2 variants and are feeling the fatigue, grab it if this is your first one or if Ahsoka and R7-A7 are the reason you are here.
Best for: Clone Wars fans who want Padawan Ahsoka and her astromech on the shelf
What it is
I will be honest, when I heard another Eta-2 Jedi Interceptor was coming I braced for a shrug. LEGO has leaned on this mold since 2012 and most versions before this one were basically the same ship in a different color scheme. Then I actually built this one and the nose section stopped me. The cockpit is a proper redesign, sleeker and more accurate to how the ship reads on screen, and it changes the whole feel of the front third of the build. It is a small joy in a small set, but it is real.
The catch
I do have to be straight with you about the price. The last version of this ship, back in 2020, ran $29.99 for 248 pieces. This one is $44.99 for 290 pieces and one extra minifigure. That is close to a fifty percent price jump for a modest bump in parts, and reviewers who tracked both sets side by side noticed it immediately. Fifteen to sixteen cents a piece is not outrageous for Star Wars, but it is not a bargain either, and if you already own an older Eta-2 in your collection this one is more of a want than a need.
Who it's for
Get this one if you love Ahsoka Tano's Clone Wars era look, because a Padawan Ahsoka minifig with her lightsabers is not something LEGO puts out often, and R7-A7 is a nice unique droid to go with her. Skip it if your shelf already has two or three of these ships and you are chasing display impact rather than a specific character, because size wise this will not compete with the bigger UCS style Star Wars builds.
The parts story
What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.
The build itself moves fast, which fits a 290 piece set aimed at builders eight and up, but it does not feel like filler. The fuselage goes together in a satisfying stack of layered plates, and then the new nose cone clicks on and completely changes the silhouette from what long time Eta-2 owners will remember. The wing assemblies are where the set earns its keep, with a working hinge system that swings the wings from a flat cruise position into an angled attack stance, and I liked that the mechanism has real resistance to it rather than flopping loose.
The standout piece for me is the redesigned canopy and nose wedge combination, since it is the first time in over a decade LEGO has meaningfully touched this part of the ship. Beyond that, the figure lineup carries a lot of the appeal, Ahsoka Tano in her Padawan outfit with a dark red backless vest and belt is a print combination collectors specifically look for, and her twin lightsabers tuck into a small storage slot behind the cockpit, a nice touch that rewards a close look rather than a glance from across the room.
Fun facts
- 01The Eta-2 Actis Class Interceptor mold this set is based on has been a recurring LEGO Star Wars shape since 2012, and this release is the first version reviewers flagged as a genuine redesign rather than a recolor.
- 02The set includes R7-A7, Ahsoka Tano's astromech droid companion from the Clone Wars animated series, in a figure exclusive to this set.
- 03The 2020 predecessor to this ship, Anakin's Jedi Interceptor, sold for $29.99 with 248 pieces, meaning this 2025 version added 42 pieces and one minifigure for a fifteen dollar price increase.
- 04Community ratings on Brickset put the set at roughly 3.9 out of 5 from over 300 votes, reflecting real enthusiasm for the design update tempered by grumbling over the price.
