The verdict

The Darth Vader Bust is small for $49.99, but the sculpting is exceptionally accurate and the smooth black armor gives it more presence than 349 pieces suggests.

The rotating head, minifigure display option and printed nameplate complete the package. It is not essential if you already own the retired Vader Helmet, yet it may actually be the cleaner likeness.

Best for: Star Wars collectors who want a compact Vader display rather than another large helmet

The full review

What it is

This 349-piece model starts a Star Wars bust collection by focusing on the most recognizable villain in the franchise. Curved slopes and tiles produce a nearly studless helmet and mask, with printed details reserved for areas where brick-built geometry would become too coarse. The head turns from side to side, and the whole bust can rotate on the plinth, which helps the model avoid feeling like a fixed front-facing trophy.

The catch

The main issue is not the execution; it is the value proposition. At $49.99 the model is compact, and collectors may already own 75304 Darth Vader Helmet, which only retired recently. Brickset's comparison found the new bust smoother and more faithful around the face, but the older helmet remains larger. The shoulder armor is the one visible accuracy compromise on an otherwise convincing sculpture.

Who it's for

Choose this over the helmet if shelf space is tight or if a full upper-body silhouette appeals more than a floating head. The included Vader minifigure can stand beside the printed plaque, or the plinth can be partially rebuilt for a centered, cleaner presentation. It is a strong gift and a polished display, though buyers who judge value mainly by piece count should wait for a discount.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

The build relies on layered black and dark-gray slopes to create readable edges without losing the gloss of Vader's armor. The respirator, angular cheeks and brow are assembled as separate sculptural zones, which keeps the face from collapsing into one black mass. Friction in the neck holds the head at different angles.

The stand follows the newer collectible display format with a printed nameplate and optional minifigure position. Most of the interest is in the curved geometry rather than rare colors, making this more of a technique set than a parts pack.

Fun facts

  • 01The bust stands about seven inches high and is designed to rotate on its display stand.
  • 02The minifigure platform can be removed so the nameplate sits centrally beneath the model.
  • 03It is one of the first LEGO Star Wars busts, following the character-bust format introduced in Marvel.
