The verdict

I opened this one expecting a quick filler build and ended up grinning at the little desk and fireplace tucked under all that foliage.

It is the smallest set in the whole Wicked, For Good wave, and it knows exactly what it is, a cozy diorama, not a showpiece. If you love the movie or you collect the mini dolls, Elphaba and Nessarose here are both exclusive to this set, so that alone makes it worth a look. If you need scale or a serious building challenge, this will feel over before it starts.

Best for: Wicked fans and mini doll collectors who want an affordable entry point into the theme

The full review

What it is

I'll be straight with you, I did not expect to fall for this one the way I did. Elphaba's Retreat is built around a tiny forest hideout, a desk and a fireplace wrapped in flowers and greenery, meant to recreate a specific quiet moment from the movie rather than any big action scene. It has the same cozy, storybook energy I love from LEGO's Elves sets, and once I had the foliage layered on I understood why one reviewer said they fell for it from first glance. The two mini dolls, Elphaba in her black coat over dress and Nessarose alongside her, are both exclusive to this release, and that alone gives the set a reason to exist beyond being a shelf filler.

The catch

Here's the honest part. This is the smallest set in the entire Wicked, For Good wave, and it builds in about an hour. If you are coming to this expecting a sprawling castle or a detailed set piece, you will be closing the box before you've really settled in. There isn't much in the way of play function either, it's a scene to look at and pose your minifigs in, not a set with hidden mechanisms or clever engineering. At 228 pieces for 27.99 dollars the price per piece is fair, and the secondary market has it holding close to or just under retail, which tells me collectors see it as a nice-to-have rather than a must-grab investment.

Who it's for

I'd point this one toward Wicked fans who want the exclusive Elphaba and Nessarose figures, or anyone building out a themed display who needs a small, pretty accent piece. If you're shopping for a weekend project or a set that will keep a builder busy for an afternoon, look elsewhere in the wave for something bigger. But if you just want a little corner of Oz on your shelf, this one earned its spot on mine.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

The build itself is short and gentle, more assembling a diorama than tackling a technical structure. You start with the base and desk, add the fireplace, then spend most of your time layering the foliage and flower pieces around the frame until the whole thing reads as an overgrown hideaway rather than a bare stand. It's the kind of build I'd hand to a newer builder who wants a fast, satisfying win, or do myself as a palate cleanser between bigger sets.

The real draw is the two mini dolls. Elphaba in her black coat over dress and Nessarose are both exclusive to this set, so if you're chasing the full Wicked character lineup, this is the only way to get them right now. The foliage and flower elements do a lot of the visual heavy lifting, giving the little scene more texture than the piece count would suggest, and the desk and fireplace add just enough storytelling detail to make it feel like a real moment lifted from the film rather than a generic backdrop.
