The verdict

I picked this one up expecting a throwaway filler set and came away liking it more than I planned to.

It is not trying to be a centerpiece, it is a quick, punchy Iron Man versus Hydra scrap you build in one sitting and then let your minifigures actually fight it out on the shelf. The three characters do the heavy lifting here, the build itself is simple almost to a fault. If you want a cheap way into the Iron Man corner of the Marvel line, or you need bodies for a bigger battle scene you already own, this earns its spot. If you need a real building challenge, look elsewhere in the range.

Best for: Marvel collectors who want Iron Man and Hydra figures without paying for a big set

The full review

What it is

This is one of those small Marvel sets that lives or dies on its characters, and here it mostly delivers. You get Iron Man in his armor, a stripped-down Iron Legion trooper, and a Hydra Soldier squared off against each other, plus whatever little bit of scenery LEGO packed in to give them something to stand on or hide behind. At 135 pieces there is no pretending this is an engineering showcase, but that was never the pitch. It is a snack, not a meal, and as a snack it is a good one.

The catch

I will be honest about the caveats. The build takes maybe fifteen minutes, there is no motorized or clicking play feature, and once it is together you are mostly just posing minifigures rather than interacting with a model. If you are the kind of builder who wants a satisfying construction process, this will not scratch that itch, the whole experience is front-loaded into unbagging the figures rather than assembling anything clever.

Who it's for

Get this one if you are filling out a Marvel shelf and want Iron Man and Hydra represented without spending big, if you have a kid who wants a fast weeknight build, or if you already own a larger Avengers set and want extra bodies for the battle. Skip it if you are shopping for a set that will hold your attention past opening day, this is a supporting player, not the main event.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

There is not much of a build story to tell here, and that is by design. You are snapping together a small terrain piece or two and whatever accessory pieces dress up the fight, then popping the three figures onto their stands. It is over quickly, which is fine for what this set is meant to do, get characters into your hands fast.

The real value sits in the figures themselves. Iron Man brings his usual printed armor detail, the Hydra Soldier adds a villain you cannot easily get elsewhere in the smaller Marvel sets, and the Iron Legion trooper rounds things out as a nice bit of army-building fodder if you want a squad of them facing down your heroes. For a 135-piece set, getting three fully realized characters is the whole reason to buy in.

Fun facts

  • 01This is one of several small-format Marvel battle sets LEGO released in 2024 designed as low-cost companions to the larger Avengers builds rather than standalone flagship sets.
  • 02The Iron Legion has appeared across multiple Marvel films as Tony Stark's remote-piloted drone army, giving LEGO a built-in excuse to keep reusing the concept as an affordable trooper figure.
  • 03Hydra Soldiers remain one of the more requested villain figures among Marvel LEGO collectors precisely because they show up so rarely outside sets like this one.
