The verdict

I yanked the pull back cord on this one about six times before I even looked at the instructions again, and that is the whole point of this set.

It is not here to teach you gearing theory or reward you with an intricate cockpit, it is here to launch a chunky orange digger truck across your kitchen floor with real force. For 218 pieces it builds up fast, which makes it a genuinely good pick for a rainy afternoon with a kid who wants results now, not a two hour build session. If you are the Technic fan in the house chasing real engineering, this is not your set, but if you want a toy that gets played with the same day it is finished, DIGatron earns its keep.

Best for: kids and casual builders who want a fast build and instant floor-racing fun

The full review

What it is

DIGatron is one of the small pull back entries in the current Technic Monster Jam lineup, sitting alongside the bigger licensed monster trucks but built around a completely different idea. Instead of suspension geometry or a detailed engine bay, the whole model is basically a housing for a pull back motor, wrapped in a digger themed monster truck body with a scoop style front end and knobby oversized tires. Pull it back, let go, and it takes off with more speed than a set this size has any right to produce. That first launch across the table is genuinely fun, and it is the moment this set is designed around.

The catch

Where it comes up short is everything after that first launch. Once the mechanism is built there is nothing left to tinker with, no gear train to study, no working scoop function, no second play pattern beyond winding it up again. At 218 pieces it is also noticeably smaller than the flagship Monster Jam Technic trucks, so if you are expecting Technic scale you will find this closer to a souped up pull back toy than a build. The price point matches that scale fairly closely, but it will not satisfy anyone shopping specifically for a meaty Technic build.

Who it's for

Get this one for a younger builder who wants something finished and playable the same afternoon, or for a Monster Jam fan who collects the licensed trucks and wants the pull back variant in the lineup. Skip it if you or your builder wants mechanical depth, moving functions, or a Technic set that rewards a slow, careful build. It is a toy first and a Technic set second, and it is honest about that.

The parts story

What the build is actually like, and the pieces worth knowing about.

The build itself moves quickly, which fits the set's identity. Most of your time goes into assembling the pull back motor housing and locking it into the chassis, then cladding it with the digger truck body panels and the oversized monster truck tires. There is no lengthy sub assembly stage and no fiddly small mechanism to fight with, so it is a comfortable build for someone newer to Technic or building alongside a kid.

There is not much in the way of rare or standout parts here, this is a functional parts pack built around its motor rather than a showcase of new molds. The oversized monster truck tires and wheel rims are the most eye catching pieces, giving the model its chunky stance, and the digger styled panels in bright orange and black carry the Monster Jam look well. It is a straightforward parts list rather than a collector's parts list, which lines up with its role as an entry level, play focused Technic set.

Fun facts

  • 01DIGatron is part of the Technic Monster Jam pull back subline, a smaller and simpler counterpart to LEGO's larger licensed Monster Jam Technic trucks.
  • 02Unlike most Technic sets, the model has no motorized or manual function beyond the pull back mechanism itself, no steering, no suspension, no extra play feature.
  • 03The digger inspired body design ties it to real Monster Jam truck theming, giving it a distinct look from the more generic monster trucks in past LEGO lineups.
