Is this the set for you?
Choose 72167 for a first Pokémon SMART Play purchase built around head-to-head play. It supplies two SMART Bricks, one charger and four SMART Tags. The Pikachu starter is the alternative for a younger builder who would rather feed and train one Pokémon around a house.
A good fit for: Ages 8+ beginning SMART Play with two responsive opponents, or a collection needing a second SMART Brick.
Two bricks are the deciding inclusion
The box includes two SMART Bricks, four SMART Tags, a charger, Charizard, Jolteon and a training station. Each Pokémon can therefore have its own powered brick during the encounter. Training movements and the healing spray give the pair something to do before the battle as well as during it.
Compare the starter before comparing the Pokémon
Training House with Pikachu 72164 supplies one SMART Brick and concentrates on feeding, hiding and training one Pokémon. Choose it for those activities and its 6+ age mark. Choose Charizard and Jolteon when two responsive opponents are the point of the first purchase. The difference is hardware and play style, rather than simply a larger box.
Why the larger Umbreon set is still an expansion
Umbreon vs. Garchomp 72165 has 831 pieces against this set's 751, but includes no SMART Brick or charger. Owners with the hardware can choose that pair and its trophy on character preference. New buyers seeking a complete responsive battle should start by comparing the two All-in-One sets, then add Compatible sets for other characters.
Allow for charging and the rollout
LEGO quotes about 45 minutes of play per charge; the included SMART Charger and USB-C cable can charge bricks in up to 2 hours 30 minutes. Play is screen-free, with SMART Assist used for updates and sound control. New Pokémon All-in-One bricks work out of the box; older bricks need the Pokémon update. Charizard stands over 18 cm tall and Jolteon over 12 cm. The announced launch markets are the US, UK, Germany, France, Poland and Australia; Canada is outside that rollout.
